IW: Fantastic Mr. Fox was one of my favorite movies growing up. Before I knew I loved Wes Anderson’s style, or Noah Baumbach’s writing (full disclosure did not realize he co-wrote this movie until I rewatched it for this review). It had an immeasurable impact on me, a baby film snob and instead of defending this strange quirky perfect movie, I am going to list a series of the thoughts that popped into my head as I rewatched this movie as someone who uses the word “cinema” on a semi-regular basis.
This movie uses the same music as Emma., I am nothing if not consistent in the things I love
I <3 Orange
I would cut off my left ring toe to wear a pair of pants like Mr. Fox
What the cuss?!
Jason Schwartzman should only play angsty 11-year-old boys
Beagles love blueberries
My sense of humor and personality in its entirety began to form when I saw Willem Dafoe as the snapping rat
If what I think is happening is happening… it better not be, top 5 favorite Streep lines EVER!
Cuss cuss cuss cuss
So much orange!!! Maybe this is why I carry around the same dirty burnt orange backpack I’ve had since high school
“Choo Chaw Chee!” - Willem Dafoe the snapping rat - my lower back tattoo
Am I being flirted with by a psychotic rat!?!? ANOTHER top 5 Maryl Streep line and frankly something I plan on incorporating into my vernacular
People see me dance and they say “what is that” what it IS is foxes dancing in a groovy grocery store.
That's my ramble about this movie I love for no reason, and there’s something kind of fantastic about that…. But not to me I prefer to be an athlete.
GV: Gotta start by getting something off my chest: claymation really freaks me out. The only times I've ever tolerated stop motion was in Corpse Bride and Isle of Dogs. After a simple Google search, I have discovered that this fear is called lutumotophobia. I thought I was alone here, but I recently discovered I’m not and that this fear is shared among at least one other person. I think that’s the main reason it took me so long to finally sit down and watch this movie. Although I may not be the only person with lutumotophobia I think I am the only person to not enjoy Fantastic Mr. Fox. The plotline thoroughly went over my head and I didn’t feel for or relate to a single character. I kinda liked Ash because he was pretentious and I find those characters very amusing (refer to every role Jesse Esinbergs has ever played). I didn't dislike it enough to never watch it again so whenever we're allowed to, I will watch this again, next time with Isabel so we can bicker about it in real-time. And just to get another unpopular opinion out of the way: Isle of Dogs is great! Okay thanks for reading and please don’t hate me.
